Starting an online business for most people is one of the best things you can do to to create a stable and profitable future for yourself. This year, more than ever before, people are taking the plunge to take their ideas online and make the first step to becoming independent entrepreneurs.

starting an online businessThe beautiful thing about running a business online is that it costs so little to get started!   It’s even possible to start many businesses without putting out any money at all. It doesn’t matter whether you are a young, a stay-at-home mom or a retiree – people of all ages are starting businesses they love doing whatever it is they’re really passionate about. Whether it’s providing a translation service, decorating ideas or selling products of some kind, there’s a niche out there that’s a great fit for your talents.

So who IS taking the plunge and starting an online business?  What kind of people are breaking the bonds of their ordinary, dreary routines, perhaps walking away from their lifeless cubicles and taking back their lives?  A lot of the people who are first time business owners and going online with their ideas are moms. Whether they’re stay-at-home moms or moms who work in an office Moms are starting an online business from homebut hate being away from their children, mothers are making up a substantial majority of those who are running online businesses on the internet.

Another big demographic chunk are the baby boomers.  With years of experience from life and business behind them, they are putting that expertise to work for them, leaving often very demanding careers to take control of their lives by starting their own online business.

Truth be told, in a tough job economy like we see right now, baby boomers are often the first people to be let go. The rather pragmatic goal of employers is to keep the younger, less experienced people working because they can pay them less (If you’ve been let go like this, take heart – the benefits of your experience probably far out-weigh the benefits of cheap labor!).

Of course it’s not fair, but often happens. If you’re one of the people who have had to face this, losing a job can devastating.  But it could also be the catalyst that launches you into a brand new adventure that brings so much good into your life that you wonder why you didn’t start working for yourself years ago!

Some jobs require people to retire from at a certain age, which is often not good for the business, because all those years of experience often make them better employees than those just hired.

With smart financial planning, a retiree usually isn’t forced to work past retirement, but with longer life spans and better health, many choose to keep working in order to stay active and to give themselves a reason to get up in the morning.

Working at something you love is good for your health!

Did you know that in many industries, the average lifespan is 65 years and 6 months?  It’s just not healthy to go from working every day to suddenly having nothing to do.

Going from an active working life to being home all day with nothing to do can be a very difficult adjustment; starting an online business can give yourself something exciting to look forward to each day and make that adjustment a lot easier on a retiree, as well as his or her family.

For those who want to stay busy after retirement and make some money while they do it, there are now plenty of opportunities available on the internet to start and run your own very successful business.
